A representation for nonlinear filters of m-sequences, the Sequential Decomposition in Cosets, is presented. This representation identifies every kth-order nonlinear filter with the sum of the characteristic sequences corresponding to every coset of weight ⩽ k. In this way, the structural properties of the nonlinear filters can be easily studied.
