Monitoring and evaluating the habitability, air quality and energy efficiency of buildings. MONITOR

  • Proyecto

Energy refurbishment of existing building stock is one of the main objectives of EU’s Horizon 2020 program. Monitoring of energy efficiency and habitable conditions have been developed in order to characterize existing buildings and estimate their improvement potential, since rehabilitation operations are complex and have a great impact on the environment and habitability conditions. Design criteria are integrated with requirements of air quality, thermal comfort or noise protection, with decisions that directly affect comfort and occupants health conditions.
Recent publications reveal significant discrepancies between experimental evaluations and theoretical energy models based on design information. Research initiatives to understand and reduce these discrepancies are needed in order to develop reliable, non-intrusive and low-cost procedures for experimental energy assessment of buildings. Joining efforts, as proposed in this network, will be useful to optimize resources.
This network is proposed to integrate significant working groups at the national level with the following objectives:

  • The creation of a discussion forum to exchange information and knowledge on measurement and experimental evaluation of buildings and their components. Different constructive scales, applications and methodologies should be considered.
  • The coordination of future research initiatives applying previous experiences. And optimizing use of resources and facilites.

A framework is proposed to articulate efforts and resources of different research teams that have an implication in this area of knowledge in Spain.
