The proposal mainly aims to reflect on the role that robotics and automation can assume in the context of heritage assessment and conservation. More specifically, the consortium will explore the possibility of upgrading current non-destructive techniques (NDT) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems to improve their capabilities for structural diagnosis based on automation and robotics. This can be a key aspect in the field of heritage conservation, since the success of any retrofit or repair intervention ultimately depends on having a proper understanding of the structure. The institutions involved in the consortium are recognized experts in a variety of fields, including NDT, structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, signal processing, wireless sensor networks, robotics and automation, masonry, timber, concrete and glass structures.
