Enrique Riera was born in Spain in 1947. He received the B.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 1972 and 1983, respectively. He is a senior scientific researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Dr. Riera is expert in the ultrasonic field, working in the Power Ultrasonics Group since 1973. His current research interests include high power ultrasonic transduction, nonlinear dynamics of power transducer, characterization of piezoelectric transducers under power operation, ultrasonic processing in multiphase media and processes application, ultrasonic agglomeration of micro-particles, ultrasonic drying, ultrasonic defoaming, ultrasonic extraction, etc. He has published more than one hundred and fifty scientific papers and a similar number of conference papers in this field. He has worked on a wide variety of projects, most of them related with ultrasonic processing at lab, semi-industrial and industrial stages. Moreover Dr. Riera is chair of the European Acoustics Association (EAA), Member of the ICU Board, Member of the Ultrasonic Industry Association, and is co-inventor of 10 patents on procedures and applications of power ultrasound in industrial processes. He has been organizer and chair of structured sessions in international congresses such as WCU, ICU, UIA, ICA, Tecniacústica, etc. He has been the Head of the Department of Sensors and Ultrasonic Systems and currently is the Deputy Director of the “Instituto de Tecnologías Físicas y de la Información” (ITEFI-CSIC) in Madrid, Spain.
