Integrated approach to assess the levels and impact of cONtaminants of Emerging concern on BLUE health and biodiversity modulated by climate change drivers

Mechanical characterization of biological fluids and tissues at cellular resolution range

There is an actual interest within the global scientific community in the development of non-invasive imaging systems at cellular resolution level. Such devices are used to analyse cell characteristics, relations among cells in tissues and also quantify cell metrics as elasticity or concentration. Diagnostic and treatment studies both in vivo and in vitro and tissue engeneering reasearch will take benefit of such a tool.

Multimodal Ultrasonic Breast Imaging System (SUMIM)

SUMIM aims to develop an innovative automated multimodal tomographic ultrasonic imaging system for breast cancer diagnosis / screening. The proposal is part of the current R&D trend to improve the ability to diagnose and monitor this disease by means of automatic ultrasound systems that can complement or replace standard mammography screening (X-rays).

Estudio de Propiedades Físicas de Promastigotes y Amastigotes de Leishmania en Cultivos en capilares microfluídicos mediante Ultrasonidos

In this Project, we study the behavior of Leishmania parasites in their two stages, promastigote and amastigote,exposed to ultrasonic standing waves in a microfluidic resonating channels. The study is performed in a glass capillary actuated by two faced piezoelectric transducers resonating at 3.7MHz. The parasites collect along the center of the channel driven by an acoustic radiation force induced.

Hematopoietic stem cells, a type of bone marrow stem cells, alone cannot be expanded in vitro; in vivo, they reside in a microenvironment known as a niche that maintains them in a quiescent state until prompted to differentiate.
