Dr. Tiago Ferreira

Dr Tiago Miguel Ferreira (PhD, FHEA) is a Senior Lecturer in Smart and Resilient Cities and Structures at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), UK, and Programme Leader for the MSc in Civil Engineering. He is also an Invited Associate Professor at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. His academic work centres on the structural vulnerability of historical buildings and urban areas to natural and anthropogenic hazards, including earthquakes, fires, floods, and landslides. More recently, his research has expanded to examine the interactions between these hazards and their effects on both physical and social vulnerability, as well as the use of digital technologies to support decision-making and community engagement. Dr Ferreira has been listed among the top 2% of most influential scientists globally by Elsevier BV and Stanford University in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. His academic contributions include over 200 publications, with more than 90 research articles in leading international journals. Additionally, he has actively participated in 13 R&D projects, involving over £10.9 million in total funding. He has also served as a reviewer for various international funding bodies, including as a member of the British Council and the EPSRC College of Reviewers.
